Leisure & Commercial Small Craft Surveys
We offer a number of surveys to meet the various needs of current or prospective boat owners as recognised by the International Institute of Marine Surveyors.
We offer the following surveys:
o Pre purchase/condition surveys for steel, grp and wooden craft.
o Damage surveys
o Valuation inspections
o Insurance surveys

Pre purchase / Condition survey
The most requested and the most detailed survey. This ascertains the structural condition of the craft by a thorough examination of the hull for damage to or weakness in the structure, blistering, delamination, failure of hull components or fastenings and moisture absorption. (Specialist moisture meters are used for the latter). The following items are normally inspected visually, unless otherwise agreed in the contract of survey.

Damage survey
This survey normally follows if a craft has suffered damage from any cause, concentrating only on the extent and nature of the damage. An opinion as to the cause of the damage is not usually offered as this is outside of the scope of the survey. However, providing that any opinions can be both substantiated and supported by evidence that would stand possible litigation, specific contractual terms may be negotiated.

Valuation inspections
Valuations may be requested in order to:
1) Obtain insurance
2) Finance
3) Satisfy a request by solicitors or financial institutions with regard to probate or other matters.

The valuation document remains a separate, stand alone report unless agreed as being part of a full pre-purchase survey. Given the wide variety of craft, most valuations will require significant research to establish current market prices.
